Ambulatory EEG monitoring is a way to examine your brain waves for abnormalities related to epilepsy for the duration of one day or more. This modality may be used if for example an initial EEG was normal. You will come into the office to have the EEG electrodes placed on your scalp, and you are allowed to go home. You will be able to eat, sleep and exercise normally, although you cannot take a shower that day. You are asked to keep a diary for the duration of the recording, to help your neurologist target specific areas of interest on your recording.
This type of recording is not associated with any injections, and may be chosen as an alternative to coming to the hospital for inpatient video EEG recording.
